Five CMC alumni offered career advice to club members in a recent videoconference. The speakers included: Zak Kavajecz – Associate Research Analyst at EAM Investors, an institutional fund manager specializing in small and micro cap international stocks in San Diego; Aaron Hizmi – Equity Research Analyst at T. Rowe Price, a large mutual fund complex in Baltimore; Sam Pickett – Equity Research Analyst at Credit Suisse, a bulge bracket investment bank in New York City; Joey Hoffmann – Analyst at Camber Capital Management, a healthcare-focused hedge fund in Boston; and Matt Tomczyk – Corporate Credit Analyst at Northwestern Mutual Investment, a large insurance company in Milwaukee. Topics covered included descriptions of their firm and job, how they approached the job search process, and other career advice. You can watch a recording of the session here.

The Columbia Threadneedle Investments 2020 Summer Undergraduate Intern Program is designed to provide students with first-hand investment management experience. Potential intern positions could include placement within: Data Science, Equity or Credit Research, Portfolio Analysis, and Responsible Investment Research. In addition to specific on-the-job learning, the program will also be supplemented with several networking opportunities and broad asset management overview sessions. Additionally, all interns will prepare a presentation based on their specific experience. Upon successful completion of the internship, full-time employment offers fot the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Leadership development Program may be extended.

Nick Klar and Rich Gross, both UW-ASAP alumni, will be on campus to talk w/ students interested in the opportunities on September 17^th and then on October 9^th and 10^th to interview students for these opportunities. They will also be hosting a meet & greet at the Fluno Center from 6PM to 8PM on Oct 9^th. 

All students interested in these opportunities need to apply via the Ameriprise website (link below).  In addition send Nick & Rich a copy of your resume, a work sample (it can be a rough draft/outline/1pg), and a brief (paragraph or two) on something about yourself that isn’t on your resume (for example what sparked your investing interest, why you would be a good fit, the most interesting investment opportunity you have looked at, the most interesting book you have read, your favorite strategy game). Juniors/Sophomores interested in investment management careers (clearly demonstrated interest/passion will be important to making it through the filtering process) should apply to the 2020 summer undergraduate intern posting. This is an excellent investments internship and accessible to undergraduates. CMC students have had good success with NM in the past.
